The Dark Cloud

Mr. Trump once again took aim at the troubles and problems in America’s inner cities at his rally in Cincinnati last night.  He blamed the Democrats. He blames everybody else for every thing!  Yet, he is now in a position to remedy those “infested” areas he denigrates—though he seems totally unaware of that fact.  It is, I suppose, easier to blame and criticize than to take responsibility and attempt to tackle the inner city issues he seems to be dwelling on these days.  The dark cloud hovering over our inner cities, however,  has mushroomed and now darkens the whole of this nation and the global community.

Climate change is real, but like the plight of the inner cities, it has been and is being ignored (by Republicans and Democrats—we are all party to it).  Climate change is oft times called a hoax.  Everything seems to be a hoax these days.  Everything is “fake” news. But the dark cloud continues to hover and is getting darker, not just darkening America’s “spacious skies,” or America’s inner cities, but darkening the whole planet!

We need prophets, like the Old Testament prophets, to unabashedly proclaim without reservation just how dark the skies have become.  We need prophets to remind us that our lakes, rivers and streams are full of pollutants and have turned yellow.  The garbage and plastic trash dumped into the ocean for centuries now floats on the surface and is washed up on the shores of every land.  Poisonous wastes which will remain poisonous for another 500 centuries are being dumped into old and leaky mines and caves carved into the mountains.  We need prophets to tell us of our wanton greed and selfishness that has created these atrocities—to warn us of the mushrooming  cloud of woe—the dark cloud that spreads across the whole world.

We need to hear the words of the prophets and act now before the cloud overwhelms us.  Republicans and Democrats alike talk about how they are going to deal with health care, social security, medicare, wages, and the like, catering to our desires, wishes and selfishness—but few are talking about the dark cloud that hovers and has been hovering over us for a long, long time.
