Got It! Do You Get It?

President Trump held a closed-door meeting at the White House last Monday with alleged Christian evangelical leaders and warned them concerning the midterm elections, “They (Democrats) will overturn everything we’ve done, and they’ll do it quickly and violently, and violently.”  I guess, in Mr. Trump’s mind,  and in the minds of those so-called evangelicals, “Democrats” are neither Christian nor evangelical.  They are just “violent,” and Mr. Trump implied they are likely to be part of “antifa” even though House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, denounced that group, saying in a statement some time ago,“the violent actions of people calling themselves antifa….deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.”  But who cares what “Nancy” says?  She just doesn’t get it, as Mr. Trump reiterated at his Indiana rally on Thursday night.  “I can’t say animals anymore because Nancy Pelosi got very angry when I called them [MS-13] animals.  I called them animals and she went crazy….They (the Democrats) don’t get it.”  So does that mean only the alleged evangelicals  “got it?”  Yes, I’m sure those evangelicals gathered with Mr. Trump on Monday evening would make that assertion (indeed they do make the assertion)—we’ve got it and if you aren’t with us, you don’t!  Got it!   Do you get it?

Alleged evangelicals equate Mr. Trump to Cyrus of Persia and King David of Israel of Old Testament fame. Cyrus (even though a heathen) liberated the Jews from Babylonian captivity and permitted the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem.  King David committed adultery, had the woman’s husband killed, but God left David as king of Israel.  “God is using Trump for his own purposes,” one evangelical reported.  How?  “He has defended the womb…taken a stand for life…taken up for Israel…declared Jerusalem the capital…He has chosen Supreme Court justices—that’s going to turn this nation around.”  These are God’s purposes? One evangelical says, “If the Lord put him in an office, the Lord will sustain him in an office.  You better be careful that you don’t lay a hand on him,” referring to  Psalm 105:5, “Touch not my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”  Funny, I never heard such a thing said about the Lord putting Barack Obama in office?  He was elected by the people, just as Mr. Trump was elected (howbeit, not by majority, but via the electoral college).  Oops! excuse me, I forgot.  Obama was a Democrat.  As Mr. Trump said, “He doesn’t have a birth certificate, or if he does, there’s something on that certificate that is very bad for him.  Now, somebody told me—and I have no idea if this is bad for him or not, but perhaps it would be—that where it says, ‘religion,’ it might have ‘Muslim.’  And if you’re a Muslim, you don’t change your religion, by the way.”  Got it!  Do you get it?

Mr. Trump talked with “the great Robert Jeffress,…Who said about me:  He may not be the perfect human being, but he is the greatest leader for Christianity.”  (Followed by applause and laughter from the evangelicals).  Trump then added, “Hopefully I’ve proven that to be a fact in terms of the second part.  Not the first part.”  Got it!  Do you get it?

Do you get this one?  “You couldn’t say Merry Christmas…I’m telling you—when I started running I used to talk about it and I hate to mention it in August, but I used to talk about it.  They don’t say Merry Christmas anymore.”  Then he added, “They say Merry Christmas a lot right now.  It’s all changed.  It’s all changed.”  Got it!  Do you get it?
