There are two places (well, actually there are many more than two) that I have often yearned to go. I’ve always wanted to take a boat trip on the Amazon River. I came close to the Amazon “wish” a few years ago when we visited in Peru (Machu Picchu). The trip to Australia has always seemed a bit daunting—especially that long trip by air to get there and back. We met an Australian couple on a European trip one time. I told them of my desire to visit their country. They couldn’t quite understand my desire—saying that there were greater wonders to see in the United States than there were in Australia. My response was that we didn’t have kangaroos or wallabies in the USA.
I’ve now scratched the boat ride on the Amazon River from my bucket list. I crossed it off when my brother-in-law told me that such a trip required the “Yellow Fever” vaccine—a “shot” that is not recommended for persons over 60 years of age because it may produce severe and adverse reactions. I do not need anything “adverse” at the moment.
Now I’ve scratched the dream to go to Australia from my bucket list. I have crossed it off because our youngest son Luke and family are visiting there and I’m vicariously there with them, petting kangaroos, holding wallabies on my lap, and listening to the kookaburras sound off.
