Whenever we travel, I tell my children I’m going on another SKI (Spend Kids Inheritance) Trip. Now that I am here at the Ameristar Casino RV Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi, it is very possible that I could really do that! The only problem is that I don’t know how to operate the slot machines or play the table games. Now, I’m sure there is someone in the Casino who would be most happy to teach me the ropes, but I fear that what little inheritance is left for my children would quickly go up in smoke!
Severe thunderstorms are predicted for Mississippi today and we thought it would be wise to just simply sit those storms out here in our little home on wheels. While our Odysseus is rather small, we have all the amenities of home available to us from hot water, stove, microwave, etc., to cable TV. (The RV Park here has a laundry). My brother and his wife, who still camp in a tent, laugh (and rightly so) whenever we suggest that we are “camping out!”
I cannot recall the number of times I have visited the state of Texas, but those crossings have been many. I even did my Air Force Basic training in San Antonio for several months many years ago. Yet, not once in all those crossings have I seen the famous Texas Blue Bonnets! I had high hopes this time around, but, alas, no Blue Bonnets did I see! Looking on the bright side of my disappointment, I have determined to try again next spring.
Disappointments! Life is full of disappointments of many sorts--from not seeing the Blue Bonnets in Texas to all the other disappointments each of us have known and experienced. Alexander Pope wrote, “Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.” What a sad life it would be if we didn’t expect anything? Wouldn’t you rather be disappointed? I would!
